Export from Interactive Brokers
FolioView reads the Activity Flex statement (XML) from Interactive Brokers. It contains every trade, dividend, withholding tax, and transfer on your account — everything needed to reconstruct your portfolio history.
There are two ways to get it in: auto-sync with a Flex Query (recommended), or a manual XML upload.
Option A — Auto-sync with a Flex Query (recommended)
Once set up, FolioView pulls the statement from IBKR for you — no manual download.
Step 1 — Create an Activity Flex Query in IBKR
In Client Portal / Account Management, go to Reports → Flex Queries → Activity and create a query that includes trades, cash transactions, dividends, and transfers. Note its Query ID.
Use the Activity Flex Query, not the Trade Confirmation one — they contain different sections.
Step 2 — Set the Flex Query ID on your account
In FolioView, open the Interactive Brokers account and paste the Flex Query ID into its settings.
Step 3 — Pick a period and sync
Choose a statement period, then click Sync from IBKR. FolioView pulls the statement automatically and imports it.
Each sync is windowed: it refreshes only the rows inside the selected date range and keeps history from other syncs. IBKR caps overrides at 365 days per request.
Option B — Manual XML upload
If you'd rather not store a Flex Query ID, download the statement yourself.
Step 1 — Download the Activity Flex statement as XML
Run your Activity Flex Query in IBKR and download the result as XML.
Step 2 — Upload to FolioView
Sign in to FolioView, open Upload from the sidebar, and drag the XML into the upload box. FolioView detects the IBKR format, parses every section, and redirects you to your portfolio dashboard.
What happens after upload
FolioView turns your statement into:
- Holdings — every open position with cost basis, current value, and unrealized P/L.
- Realized P/L — every closed trade matched FIFO against your oldest buys, per-currency.
- Historical net worth — a daily time series reconstructed from your trade ledger plus end-of-day prices.
- Dividends, withholding tax, fees, FX — each broken out so income return, cost ratio, and price return stay separated.
- Broker fee comparison — the same trades re-priced under Revolut and Trading 212 schedules, so you can see how IBKR's costs compare.
Re-syncing later
Windowed replace means you can sync as often as you like: each sync refreshes only its own date range and leaves the rest of your history untouched. Manual XML uploads behave the same way.
Troubleshooting
- "Set a Flex Query ID first" — the Sync button is disabled until the account has a Flex Query ID saved (Option A, Step 2).
- "Unrecognized format" — make sure you exported the Activity Flex statement as XML, not CSV or a Trade Confirmation report.
- Range cannot exceed 365 days — IBKR limits each Flex override to a 365-day window; sync in chunks for longer histories.
