DeGiro vs Revolut: which is cheaper?
Revolut is nearly free for small trading — commission is 0.10% of the order with no minimum — but its FX markup and plan subscriptions add up fast on US stocks. DeGiro charges a flat €3 (EU) / €2 (US) plus 0.25% AutoFX. Set your profile to see which wins for you.

Method & assumptions
Figures use public fee schedules as of 11 July 2026, for the market, order size and monthly frequency you set, held over 12 months, in EUR (1 EUR ≈ 1.14 USD).
- FX shown assumes you convert currency on every trade (the default for DeGiro AutoFX and Revolut). Holding a US-dollar balance makes FX nearly disappear for IBKR and Revolut — but DeGiro’s 0.25% still applies either way: switching off AutoFX means manual conversions at €10 + 0.25% each.
- IBKR US per-share fees assume ~€150/share — below ~€15k (Tiered) / ~€30k (Fixed) per order the per-order minimum applies, so share price barely matters.
- IBKR is shown best-of Fixed and Tiered. Tiered excludes small exchange/clearing/regulatory pass-throughs (~$0.003/share); Fixed is the all-in rate.
- DeGiro’s €3 EU flat fee is the home-market rate (Euronext Amsterdam/Brussels). Most other European exchanges cost €4.90 at DeGiro (€3.90 + €1 handling), which the calculator does not model.
- “Mix” alternates EU and US trades 50/50 by count; FX applies to the US half only.
- Excluded: DeGiro €2.50/yr-per-exchange connectivity, IBKR account fees (inactivity abolished 2021), Revolut custody fees, taxes/stamp duty and market-data fees.
- Revolut FX uses a monthly fair-usage allowance: Standard converts about €1,000/mo free then ~1%, Plus about €3,000/mo free then ~0.5%, and Premium and Metal have no FX fee. Commission is 0.10% per order with no minimum (schedule effective 9 July 2026); Premium includes 5 commission-free orders a month and Metal 10 — Standard and Plus have none. Allowances, plan prices and free-trade counts vary by region and change over time — always confirm current rates on each broker’s website.

When each broker wins
When DeGiro wins
DeGiro wins for larger EU orders and for US trading if you’d otherwise be on Revolut Standard, whose FX (free up to €1,000/mo, then ~1%) adds up once your US volume climbs. Its flat fee and modest 0.25% AutoFX are predictable and beat Revolut once you exceed the free-trade allowance at size.
When Revolut wins
Revolut wins for small and occasional trades — its 0.10% no-minimum commission means a €500 order costs €0.50 against DeGiro’s flat €2–3. For frequent US trading, a paid plan’s 0% FX (Premium €131.88/yr, Metal €239.88/yr) can beat DeGiro, if the subscription pays for itself.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Revolut really free to trade?
- Not quite — since July 2026 the Standard plan has no free trades; every order costs 0.10% (no minimum), which is still only €1 on a €1,000 order. The bigger cost is the FX markup on US trades — free up to about €1,000/mo on Standard, then ~1% — so small EU trading is nearly free while heavy US trading is not.
- DeGiro or Revolut for US stocks?
- It depends on your Revolut plan. On Revolut Standard, US volume above the €1,000/mo FX allowance is charged ~1%, which can make heavy US trading pricier than DeGiro’s €2 + 0.25% AutoFX. On Revolut Metal (no FX fee) frequent US trading can be cheaper than DeGiro, once the subscription is covered.
- Does the Revolut subscription pay off?
- Only if its free trades and 0% FX save more than the plan costs. Premium is €131.88/yr for 5 free trades/month and no FX fee (Metal €239.88/yr for 10); that wins for frequent US traders but is dead weight for occasional trades. The calculator charges the full subscription so the comparison is honest.
- Which has lower fees for buy-and-hold investing?
- For occasional EU buys, Revolut’s 0.10% no-minimum commission keeps costs near zero — €0.50 on a €500 order. Above roughly €3,000 a trade, DeGiro’s flat €3 wins. Try your real size and frequency above.
- Are account or custody fees included?
- No — totals cover commission, FX and Revolut plan subscriptions only. DeGiro’s €2.50/yr per-exchange connectivity and Revolut’s region-dependent custody fees are listed separately and excluded.
